Information we collect
When you create an NYC Story, we may collect your verified email address, public display name, title, story type, New York location, optional date and story, one photograph, selected visibility, required permission confirmation, optional social-media permission, and the date and version of those choices. We also store password-free My NYC sign-in sessions and any page-change requests you submit. You may choose to share where you are from or based, a public profession or role, short bio, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, X, website, booking page, or another public link.
What is public and what stays private
Your verified email address is never displayed on your story page. If you choose a public story, the display name, story, photograph, New York location, and any optional hometown, profile details, or links you submit may appear publicly after review. Only add information you want other people to see.
Why we verify email
We send a six-digit code to confirm that the address belongs to you. This helps prevent spam, fake submissions, and unauthorized use of another person’s email. Successful verification also gives you secure, password-free access to My NYC, where stories connected to that email can be managed.
How we use your information
We use submitted information to review and moderate your story, communicate with you, create and manage your personal page, generate branded photos and Reels, provide your private owner link, prevent abuse, and maintain the service. We feature an approved story on official Love in NYC social-media channels or promotional materials only when you select that optional permission.
My NYC account access
My NYC uses a secure browser cookie so you can remain signed in without a password. The cookie does not display your email publicly. You can sign out at any time. Changes, visibility requests, and removal requests submitted through My NYC are stored for moderation, and the current public page remains unchanged until a request is approved.
Writing and image preparation
We may use automated tools to help prepare a short English introduction, format text, and compose branded photos and Reels. We may crop the photograph for different sizes while prioritizing the main subject and visible faces.
Public and private stories
Public stories may appear on the homepage, in the NYC Stories collection, in search engines, and in social link previews. A private story is not listed publicly, but anyone who receives its page link may be able to open and share it. The private owner link may include download controls and should be kept private.
Downloads and social sharing
After approval, the story owner may receive downloadable branded photos and Reels through a private link. Once a file or link is shared through a third-party service, that service’s privacy practices apply.
Optional public profile information
If you choose to add a profession, business description, website, social profile, booking page, or other public link, those details may appear on your approved public story page. Your submission email is not displayed. Opening an external link is subject to that third party’s privacy practices.
Service providers
We use providers for hosting, storage, database operations, security, email delivery, and optional writing or image preparation. They process information only as needed to provide those services. We do not sell personal information.
Retention, correction, and removal
We keep submissions and permission records while needed to review, publish, administer, resolve disputes, and protect the service. You may request access, correction, a visibility change, withdrawal of future promotional permission, or deletion through the Contact page. We may retain limited records when required by law or necessary for safety and fraud prevention.
Children
The service is not intended for children under 13. A photograph featuring a minor may be submitted only by a parent or legal guardian, or with their clear permission. Submitters must be at least 18.
