I had a list of kitchens, bakeries, and bars to visit, but Rockefeller Center was the unplanned stop that stayed with me. Summer flowers filled the Channel Gardens, flags lined the plaza, and the city lights began to come on around us.
The photograph is simple, which is why I like it. It looks like the moment felt: one person from Texas standing inside the New York evening he had imagined for years.
