We became engaged two weeks before flying to New York. We did not want a staged announcement. We wanted one honest photograph in a place big enough to match how the future felt.
On the observation deck, Manhattan opened behind us and the wind made every pose impossible. The picture worked because we stopped trying. The skyline says New York; our faces say everything else.
