Harlem keeps my rhythm

I carry this guitar through Harlem more often than I carry it onstage. The neighborhood has its own rhythm: conversations from stoops, buses on the avenue, music through an open window, footsteps changing pace at every corner.

This is not a performance photograph. It is a portrait of my real New York—walking home with the instrument that lets me turn the city into songs.
