We came to New York from Yerevan, Armenia with a full itinerary, but Harlem became the part of the trip we kept talking about.
The guitar had been part of the family longer than either of us could remember. On a warm Harlem evening, a father played an old melody and ours daughter joined in with the words. Music made the stoop feel like a stage and the whole block feel close. What mattered was not performing perfectly, but keeping a family tradition alive together.
